Objectives and Functions

The primary objectives & functions of the Junior Council are as follows:

 Deepening the understanding of Local Authority democracy

The Junior Council shall create a platform for the Council to educate the children and youth of Ongwediva about the process of democracy that lead to the establishment of Local Authorities within the Namibian democracy context.

Engaging the youth of Ongwediva in governance issues

The Junior Council shall create a platform to encourage and develop a culture for the youth to be exposed to issues of national concern (such as HIV/AIDS, unemployment, crime, alcohol & drug abuse).

The Junior Council shall accord Council to put the children and youth of Ongwediva first. In all actions related to them, their best interest shall be a primary consideration.

The Junior Council to submit to Council project proposals on youth programs and initiatives; for consideration and/or approval.

Creating a platform of patriotic values

The Junior Council shall create a platform for the Council to educate the children and youth of Ongwediva about the purposes and objectives of the Council and the responsibilities and expectations of the community towards the Council.

The Junior Council shall create a platform for the Council to remind the children and youth of Ongwediva about their responsibilities towards the community through the set norms and values.

Engaged in the spread of the rights of the underprivileged

The Junior Council shall enable the children and youth of Ongwediva to educate their peers that children are born free and equal in dignity and rights. To inform their peers on the structures and institutions established to assist them in situations of all forms of discrimination and environment with physical, mental, and emotional security.

Creating linkages with the youth of the world

The Junior Council shall enable the children and youth of Ongwediva with the children and youth from other backgrounds to work together; to share and compare notes and experiences that make active citizenship a reality.
